Introduction

 INTRODUCTION

My name is Te'Ajai (Tea), I'm an art major in my final semester. I've decided to plan my visits every Friday, as I have no classes and that is the start of my weekend, so I feel like it will be a fun outing each week.

Brittany Yarrow

Hi all, My name is Brittany Yarrow and I am a senior graduating this year with a bachelors of science in hopes to pursue my PhD in Marine sciences. I took this class because. it seemed like a fun way to experience art in my busy schedule and prioritize it. I like abstract art pieces and mosaic tile arrangements I saw a lot of them on recent trip to Europe and I am super excited to find other styles of art to enjoy.

Chloe Oliver - Bio

I am a psych major and an education minor, and I took this course to explore other parts of New Haven and Connecticut. when I was younger, I loved art and making art. Monday at 9 am deadline

 Hi Class,

I am writing to you to encourage you to get moving on joining the blog and your Google Drive for class.  I will be taking attendance on Monday morning at 9am.  One record for March 18 will be for your post on the blog and one record for the 20th for your creation of a Drive folder, shared with me using jnevins@albertus.edu. To join, you need to click on the link blogger sent you on March 13th.  Don't create your own blog... that will mess things up.  Just join the class blog. This is much easier than eLearning and a much richer experience.

As I mentioned in a  post on the blog, to help keep everyone on track, I will be writing down a grade each Monday morning at that point.  If nothing is there, the grade is 0 and it will be averaged each week with the next grade.

Blog address: https://mod42024.blogspot.com/ Bookmark it and visit often.

This is an asynchronous class (that means independent study) with my feedback and guidance on the blog.  It requires you to take responsibility for making it happen. That means making time to visit the museum (s) on a weekly basis and writing 4 papers and 2 photo essays, one each week.

Please email me with any questions.

Jay Rivera - Intro

Hello!

I'm Jay Rivera, a day student at Albertus Magnus College. I am a third-year student, planning on majoring in Psychology with a concentration in Art Therapy, while also minoring in Studio Art. My goal is to one day work in the mental health field with adolescents and young adults. I am currently interning with an LMFT, working with kids and teens, planning diverse art activities they can partake in and use as a creative outlet. I really am enjoying this interning opportunity as I work with a diverse group of people, learning many things along the way. I have a passion for building connections with youth, wanting to continue pursuing this fulfilling career as I continue my education.

For my museum visits, I plan on visiting the New Britain Museum of American Arts. It's near where I live and I visited it a couple of times as a young kid. A little fun fact is the museum holds an annual installment of local student work in an annual exhibition, Art from the New Britain Public and Parochial Schools. Each year, the NBMAA receives, selects, and installs over 200 works by outstanding K–12 New Britain students, representing the creative spirit of New Britain. I actually had the opportunity to have my artwork displayed here a couple of times during my youth for these exhibitions, it was always so fun. I've had pieces from paintings, oil pastel drawings, and ceramic sculptures exhibited here, which was always so fulfilling to see as a young artist. I would like to go back now as a young adult and see the installations and pieces of art again but this time with a new set of eyes and mindset. I'm very excited!

Jaheim Hardy Intro

My name is Jaheim Hardy. I was born and raised in New Haven. I attended all New Haven public schools, which made me who I am today and what made me want to become an educator. I'm a day student studying Humanities at Albertus Magnus College and once I graduate this year I'll be applying for Teach for America or pursuing my master's at the University of Bridgeport. My favorite quote is, " If you can't fly, then run, if you can't run, then walk, if you can't walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward."-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Aubryana Tripp - Bio

Hi everyone,

My name is Aubryana Tripp and I am currently enrolled as a student at Siena Heights University located in Adrian, Michigan. Pursuing a degree in art education, my goal is to become a high school art teacher. Currently I am working my way through college by managing a restaurant and am about to begin substitute teaching. However, my true passion lies in education. I am on a mission to cultivate creativity and critical thinking skills in future generations.

As I mentioned I live in Michigan and due to some recent budgetary constraints my university has made cuts within our art program, consequently depriving us of access to art history courses. However, I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in this course facilitated through a consortium with other schools in affiliation with the Dominican Sisters.

My plan for the museum visits involves a few visits to the Toledo Museum of Art located in Toledo, Ohio which is about 45 minutes from where I live. I hope that by immersing myself in the diverse array of artworks on display, I can gain some insights that will inform my essays and photo submissions.

I look forward to "meeting" all of you through your posts.

Class Begins Monday, March 18th

 Hi Everyone,

We have 9 students in the class... so we are a definite go.

What is due this week?  Here is a checklist....

- Join the blog!  Click on the link in the email Blogger sent you last week and join the class blog (this blog).  Use your Albertus Login

-Create a Google Drive Folder, label it Museum Experience, and your name.  Share it with me using jnevins@albertus.edu...

- Read through the syllabus linked in the uppr right side of the blog.

-Post a bio and selfie here on the blog.  Are you in the Day or Evening Program?  Are you from another campus?

- In your post, indicate how you will visit your museum (s).  If you are an Albertus Day Student with limited or no transportation then you may visit the Yale Art Gallery to complete this class.  It is important to make multiple visits.

-Let's get these items completed by Monday morning, March 25th at 9 am.  I will take attendance then for the previous week.  All work is due on each Monday morning at 9 am.

- The main thrust of the class is to get you in front of important works, in person, for you to encounter in person.

- Plan on a visit and paper posted to your Google Drive each week starting on April 1st.

Here is the schedule:

April 1st, 1st visit, post a quick summary here on the blog each work and place your finished work in your Google Drive.  If you skip a week, 2 absences will be recorded.  After 2 weeks, the registrar will remove you from the class.

The next 5 due dates, for 6 projects in all, 4 papers and 2 photo essays are, April 8, 15, 22,29 and May 6th.  The final week will be for make-ups, adding to work, editing, etc.

It is important to understand that this is an Asynchronous class.  That means that we will not meet at specified times and that we will use this blog for my feedback and communication.  You are always welcome and encouraged to email me with any questions, help, information, etc.  I respond to email 7 days a week.  It is the best way to stay in touch.

Young students at Yale Art Gallery, learning about "The Night Cafe", Vincent Van Gogh... highly recommended to focus on!

Welcome to The Museum Experience!

 Hello Museum Experience Class,

The first week of class begins Monday, March 18. The class runs for 8 weeks. It's time to launch this class and get going! By now you have read the syllabus and have started making plans for your outings. The first order of business this week is to get you to post an introduction and bio of yourself here on the class blog.  Posting a picture of yourself would be terrific! In your post, indicate a general plan on how you will do your 5 museum visits.  It is important to pace yourself and actually make those visits on different days.  For undergraduate day students, you may decide you need to only visit the Yale Art Gallery.  That is okay.  As the oldest and I would argue, best university art museum in the country, it truly has a world class collection that spans the entire spectrum of art from ancient to modern. It is a miniature Metropolitan Museum of Art in my opinion and is only 1 1/2 miles down from the Albertus campus on Chapel Street, near the green.  The Yale shuttle is free and will take you door to door.

To get things started, let me tell you a bit about myself.... I have been teaching full time at Albertus for the past 43 years and am grateful for the opportunity to spend my life working with students who want to learn more about art. I've been married for the past 49 years to my high school sweetheart and have 2 wonderful sons, 44 and 40. My main interest is photography and I earned an M.F.A. in still photography from Rochester Institute of Technology. At Albertus I teach not only Photography but a range of other courses which include Foundation Design (2-D and 3-D), Graphic Design, Ceramics, Intro to Computer Art, and this course for Gen Ed.

So, welcome! It is my sincerest wish that you will find this class to be enriching and enjoyable. I am here to do everything I can to support your success. The key will be good communication all the way through. Don't ever hesitate to email me and I am available to talk to you on the phone as well.
